Shows how to release painted shut sash windows
You can't open your sash windows right? Windows totally stuck?
It's summer, you're boiling hot, maybe you can’t sleep, you can't relax?
Can we free them up? Of course we can, this is Sash Window School after all!
So you need to get your sash windows open for some well needed ventilation!!
Chances are, the windows have been painted shut by a not so conscientious painter / decorator.
So the question is, can we get these sash windows opening again, the answer to that question is of course we can!
But how?
What we need to do is break the paint seal with a knife. The gap between the sashes and the beading has probably been loaded with paint rendering the window unopenable.
It’s quite easy when you know how. Use a Stanley knife to break the paint seal between the Staff bead and parting beads and give the sashes a bit of a jiggle about. This should release them.
Windows still not opening?
